Suwannee Base Paleo Madison Co. FL
![]()
1 1/2" by 1 1/2" $20 order a4615
COMMENTS: finished base, spectacular translucent stone, probably snapped off at point
of hafting during use.

Heavy Duty Bone Point Taylor Co. FL
SOLDJR
4 3/16" a4614
COMMENTS: this pin is made from a halved section of deer cannon bone,
instead of a quartered section, which is much more common. The result is a
thicker, wider shaft suitable for heavy use. This may have been hafted
into a sturdy bone handle, or possibly a heavy atlatl shaft.

Bone Handle made from Giant Tortoise Paleo Columbia Co. FL
SOLDJR
5 1/4" a4613
COMMENTS: handle made from an extinct Pleistocene tortoise of the genus
Hesperotestudo (formerly called Geochelone). This is likely the
same genus as the one found in Little Salt Spring which was deemed Geochelone
crassiscutata. Other extinct megafauna found there also include
mastodon, sloth and bison. See Milanich, Florida Archaeology, p.38.

Bison Bones from 1600s Plains Indians Midden Early Contact Period
Merrick Co. Nebraska
![]()
$25 per flat, $75 for all four flats.
COMMENTS:
The material offered here is from two middens on the Loup River near St. Paul,
NE. This site is from what is called the Lower Loup people of
proto-Pawnee. Since there was no evidence found of horses here, and since
it is certain the Pawnees here had horses by 1720 and most likely by 1700,
it seems probable the material dates from the 1600s. Evidence of trade
with the French is supported by the presence of glass beads, thin copper sheets
sometimes rolled into beads and bangles, as well as offset iron awls and other
scraps of iron. Pottery, flint tools and arrow points were abundant, as
well as many bison bones. Besides the bison and the dogs, other animals
apparently eaten by the village residents include, deer, elk, fish, birds,
beavers and rats. All the large leg bones are broken to extract the
marrow. Below are some of the beads and small arrowpoints also found in
the midden.
